A Japanese interpretation of Indian tessellating carved geometry

A Japanese interpretation of Indian tessellating carved geometry
Designed by Japanese Architect Nariyoshi Muramatsu, the interiors of Kheer Restaurant celebrate geometry, rhythm, and tradition. We collaborated in the design and execution of intricate stone carvings that define the entrance reception and the imposing pillars of the restaurant.
The carvings draw inspiration from traditional Islamic patterns, interpreted through a contemporary lens. Repeated floral and geometric motifs are engraved into Autumn Brown Quartzite, their depth revealed as light grazes the surface, casting shadows that animate the space.
Crafted through a synthesis of digital manufacturing and hand craftsmanship, the carvings embody precision and artistry. Each piece required careful detailing to maintain the symmetry and intricacy of the patterns while ensuring architectural integrity.
An atmosphere both timeless and modern, where tradition finds new expression in stone
